This executive course explores the role of leaders as catalysts of transformative change in the context of the 2030 Agenda. The UN must reposition itself in the face of unprecedented challenges, which require integrated solutions and new ways of thinking. Leaders of the 2030 Agenda must be strong sustainable development advocates, with a deep understanding of all dimensions of the SDGs, and of varying contexts, as well as the political economy of development. They need to be policy integrators, capable of steering complex multi-stakeholder contributions.
Over the course of 5 days, senior leaders from the UN System overseeing the UN’s reform efforts, as well as senior leaders of the UN Climate Secretariat and other entities based in Bonn’s sustainability hub, will provide insights in latest developments and debates. Participants will also have an opportunity to engage with several inspirational leaders from the private sector, civil society and academia. The course includes a one-day excursion to Amsterdam to visit Buiksloterham, professional media and communications training in the TV and radio studios of the Academy of the German foreign broadcaster Deutsche Welle (DW), opportunities for senior level networking and practice exchanges, a simulation about the political economy of sustainable development at national level, an introduction to the recently approved UN Leadership Framework and innovative approaches to change management in an evolving context.
